Lip Augmentation and Reduction

Hyaluronic acid (e.g. Juvederm) injection is a popular temporary augmentation technique. Long-lasting results are obtained with micro-fat grafts or dermal fat grafting. In dermal-fat grafting, your own tissues are carefully harvested (ideally from a pre-existing scar), and threaded through the lips to produce increased volume and definition. As they are your own tissues, the graft does not carry the risks of exposure or extrusion like an artificial implant, and there is no risk of inflammatory lumps (granulomata). Micro-fat grafting is also a great option but usually requires a second injection to create a durable augmentation result. Fees of $3-5,000 are typical.

Reduction of enlarged lips involves direct excision of red lip from within the oral cavity, with the scar well hidden from view. The white lip underneath the nose can appear long in some individuals. Shortening of an elongated white lip is performed by excision along the base of the nose.
