Aside from the 'immediate gratification' of combination procedures, it is generally less expensive to cmbine tummy tuck and breast surgery rather than perfoming separately. Scars are usually their most red at 6 weeks. Blood vessels dilate to help deliver material for healing the wound, but after 6 weeks the supplies have arrived and the healing process is devoted to using the materials for building scar tissue to prevent the wound from opening. It is in this period after 6 weeks that we focus on controlling the accumulation of too much scar tissue, with silicone dressings a mainstay in our practice.

Most people get good scars after surgery, but a small percentage will develop thick raised scars termed hypertrophic (or if very bad) keloids.

A combination of techniques helped this patient achieve a successful result. Choosing implant size and matching areola height can be particularly difficult, as the tissues change depending on how tight they are pulled. This patient presented with Symmastia- the merging of breast implant pockets in the midline. Revision surgery involves repair of the capsule that surrounds the implants, and often a smaller implant is recommended.

This early sample of our work was done using the classic inferior pedicle (Robbins) technique. Even with the inframammary scar well hidden, this technique predisposes to bottoming out- the breast below the areola stretches and allows breast volume to displace from the upper breast to the lower breast.

Many of our patients lose weight after body contour surgery, as they now have pride in their physicque and execise is physically more comfortable. We try to make allowance for future weight loss, so that proportions will remain good at both present weight and possible future lower weight.

The vertical pattern procedure is designed to minimize the scar under the breasts, while emphasizing the contour benefits of pulling breast tissue from the side of your chest and pushing the breast forward to achieve an attractive projection.

Breast lift/reduction has a tightening effect on the upper abdomen which can allow for liposuction instead of a tummy tuck to improve abdominal contour. Breast Lift surgery is a tremendous tool for achieving an improved breast shape, but scars are a legitimate concern. Your scars will primarily be a function of your native skin healing, so any history of bad scars from injuries, surgery, vaccines, even chicken pox is a good predictor of problem scarring.
